To start planning and creating my professional product in
the genre of Contemporary Northern Soul I had to do some primary research of my
own. To do this I conducted a survey using surveymonkey.com and created a 7
question, quick questionnaire to hand out to my implied target audience. I had
some idea of who I would be aiming my product at so I gave the survey to some
of my peers. From the survey, I concluded that my audience wanted a magazine not
just about music but also the movement and fashion of traditional Northern Soul,
and as expected were fans of the brand Fred Perry. This gave me an idea of what
costume to use as part of the mise-en-scene of my product and also what to
focus some of my stories on. Additionally, by asking who their favourite artist
was out of the three choices, I found that the majority preferred The Who. This
was useful as I then concluded that my audience focus on newer artist who are
touring now, rather than bands that we haven’t heard off for at least the last
10 years.
